Our Story
Lopez's Little Market opened its doors in 2016, born from a simple idea that Maria Lopez had been carrying for years: that her East Austin neighborhood deserved a place where people could buy real food, made by real people, without having to drive across town to a big-box store. Maria grew up watching her grandmother tend a small garden in San Antonio, preserving what the land gave and sharing it freely — and that spirit lives in every shelf at the market.
The market started as a modest corner spot on Chicon Street with a folding table, a hand-lettered sign, and three types of bread. Word spread quickly. Neighbors stopped in, stayed to chat, and came back the next week with their kids. Within two years, Maria expanded into the storefront next door, added a rotating selection of local produce, and began partnering with Austin artisans to carry their handmade goods.
Today, the market is staffed by a small, dedicated team including Maria's niece Sofia Reyes, who manages the artisan section, and longtime friend Carlos Mendez, who handles produce sourcing and early-morning deliveries. Together they serve hundreds of families every week, many of whom have been coming in since the very first day. The market is more than a shop — it's a gathering place.
Our values are straightforward: quality over quantity, local over imported, and community over commerce. We believe that a neighborhood market should feel like an extension of home — warm, honest, and always worth the walk. That belief guides every decision we make, from which farms we partner with to how we arrange the bread display each morning.

What Our Neighbors Say
★★★★★
"I've been coming to Lopez's every Saturday morning for three years and it has become the highlight of my weekend routine. The sourdough is better than anything you'll find at a farmers market, and Maria always knows what's freshest that week. Last month she set aside a jar of honey for me before it sold out — that's the kind of shop this is. It genuinely feels like family."

★★★★★
"We moved to the neighborhood in 2022 and this market was the first place that made Austin feel like home. My kids ask to stop in every time we drive past — mostly for the pan dulce, honestly, but also because everyone there knows their names. The artisan section is wonderful too; I've bought several ceramic mugs as gifts and every single person has asked where they came from. We always point them right back here."

★★★★★
"As someone who works with local food systems in Austin, I can tell you that Lopez's Little Market does things the right way. Maria knows every farmer she buys from, pays fairly, and isn't afraid to turn down produce that doesn't meet her standards. The quality shows — the heirloom tomatoes especially are outstanding. It's also one of the few places in the city where you can buy a handmade candle and a loaf of bread in the same transaction. Absolutely irreplaceable."
